FFPL Goals

1. Help support the Library accommodate the increasing population of the city with books requested, circulation policies and outreach to promote literacy in the community.
2. Help support the Bookmobile, grants and scholarships again in conjunction with #1 to support a growing community and the importance of literacy and education.
3. Provide financial support for library programs and events.

FFPL was founded in 1986.

Our History

A 501(c)3 nonprofit

July 1986
Freeport Public Library opens with a donated collection, staffed by volunteers in the shopping
center south of HWY 20. A 501(c)3 nonprofit.
January 1996
Freeport City Council moves and approves the City to build a new library facility.
January 1998
The Friends of the Freeport Library register as a 501(c)3 nonprofit to support the library.
April 2001
The current Freeport Public Library opens to the public.
September 2008
The Friends of the Freeport Library dissolved its nonprofit status, continued operating in an unofficial capacity.
June 2019
The Friends of the Freeport Public Library register under a new name as an official 501(c)3 organization.

Why We Raise Money...

FREEPORT LIBRARY EXPANSION

The Friends of the Freeport Public Library have kicked off our efforts to raise funds for a new addition to our
library facility. It will be a great library for Freeport’s future.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Summer Reading is hosted each Summer, providing programs, events, and activities for school-aged children
to promote literacy while school is out. FFPL supports Summer Reading by providing materials for activities,
incentives and presenters.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Our library offers tuition scholarships to Career Online High School, a fully online program for adults 19 and over who would like to earn a high school diploma. FFPL provides funding for these scholarships through grants and fundraising. Learn more about COHS by visiting www.fl.careeronlinehs.org.

BOOKMOBILE

FUNDED BY A ST. JOE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANT

BOOKMOBILE STOPS

• Rural communities such as Mossy Head, Choctaw Beach, Bruce, Liberty, Gaskin, Red Bay
• Communities south of the Choctawhatchee Bay with a long commute to a library such as Miramar
Beach, Inlet Beach, and WaterSound
• Private Schools with little or no on-site library support
• Assisted Living and Senior Living communities
• Childcare facilities
• Local parks
• Local events and more!
